Their bats were silent and Northville had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Eclipse struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 24-year-old starter Jason García. The left-hander quieted the Pine Island Dolphins at Old-Timers Park to help Northville take the 2-0 decision and seize a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-3 3L AA Championship.

The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Patrick Wilder didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Pine Island trailing 1-0, Wilder retired Renato González to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Wilder, with a wink.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Old-Timers Park in Northville.
