Seattle Bats Go Silent in 1-0 Loss
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids beat the Seattle Rocketeers, 1-0, at Atlantica. Starting pitcher Pablo Valentín was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Valentín got the win, improving to 11-6. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed no runs. Juan Carlos Mejía notched his 28th save in 30 chances.

Northern Virginia third baseman Jing-zhong Ng contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 28th hit of the season and put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 1-0.

"Pablo was pounding the zone," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.

The 64-45 Rainbow Mermaids lead the Premier League by one game.
