Stingers Run Win Streak to 7
|
The Toledo Stingers defeated the Panama City Piranhas, 7-1, at Pacesetter Park. Toledo was led by 23-year old first baseman Daniel Webster, who went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Jorge Souza, who is tied for 9th in the SL in quality starts with 10, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. With the win, Toledo has a record of 53-25. Panama City falls to 35-43.
There was more than one reason the Stingers beat the Piranhas, but Webster's big at-bat in the bottom of the third was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
Webster said his team "played with focus."
