Kingfishers Clip Rainbow Mermaids, 2-1, in R1 Contest

The Pittsburgh Kingfishers nearly wasted a strong game from starter Luis Rojas, but were saved by some timely hitting in a walk-off win over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids.
Rojas was exceptional in the 2-1 win at Pittsburgh Grounds. He threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run. The win allowed Pittsburgh to cut the Northern Virginia lead in the best-of-5 series to 1-2.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Pittsburgh catcher Juan Moreno, facing Tetsu Gato, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Kingfishers the 2-1 win.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Moreno said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Pittsburgh Grounds in Pittsburgh.
