Cattlemen Come Up Short at Montana, 3-2
|
Montana pitcher Dan Collins had a large part in his team subduing the Ft. Worth Cattlemen, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Collins, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 5 walks. Joey Greco wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Pandas had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when second baseman Ken Ervin hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Qu-bing Li and made the score 3-0, Pandas. Ervin went 1 for 3.
"It never gets old," said Collins. "Winning, that is."
The Pandas saw their win-loss record go to 38-41. At the same time, the Cattlemen fell to 40-39.
