The Toledo Stingers got a magnificent effort from pitcher Tom Johnston, who kept Dayton hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Stingers win at Lang Park. In 7.1 innings, Johnston surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. With the win, Toledo raised its record to 45-41.
Toledo used a clutch hit from Heikki Lahtela to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Stingers ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a doozy.
"Runs were at a premium," said Toledo manager TJ Reynolds.
