The Las Vegas Flamingos used a great performance from Gilberto Malfeito, who finished 5th in the SL in strikeouts with 124 in 2059, to beat the Memphis Mockingbirds, 3-1, at Magnolia Park. The winner was Derek Carter in relief. His record improves to 4-0. David Thornton took the loss. The 9th-place Flamingos improved to 37-52.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jesús Soto? The 27-year old second baseman Soto stroked a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to put Las Vegas up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
Soto said his team "played with focus."
