Toronto right fielder John Matthews was instrumental in helping the Thunder triumph, 4-1, over the Philadelphia Liberty. Matthews went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner in relief was Fernando Ríos. He is now 1-2. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. The second-place Thunder now have a win-loss record of 51-41.
Jon Gore drove in one run against the Liberty. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, he grounded out, driving in 1 run that put Toronto in front, 2-1.
Matthews called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
