Romero described his feelings during his induction speech, commenting, "When you're playing, awards don't seem like much. Then, you get older and all of it becomes more precious. It is nice to be remembered."
Romero retired from baseball at the age of 42.
His longtime manager also spoke at the ceremony, stating, "As a pitcher he had it all... poise, confidence, control, great movement... and Raúl wasn't afraid to pitch inside. He lit up the room when he came in. He was a joy to be around. Raúl loved playing baseball."
