September's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Garrett Friday, October 1st , 2060 The Syracuse Starks celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Jeffrey Garrett had been selected as September's USPL Triple A Pitcher of the Month. Garrett's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic. "Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Garrett said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs." Garrett tossed 19.1 innings last month, holding opponents to a .236 average while striking out 20 batters. In 3 starting assignments he came away with a 3-0 record, putting together an ERA of 0.93. The 37-year-old Garrett has sat down 195 batters on strikes, walked 84 and put up a 3.38 ERA. His career won-lost record is 15-9. |
