Turbeaus End Jones Streak Thursday, August 8th , 2058 For 23 straight games, Eddie Jones tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 23-year-old Asheville Highlanders center fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Gulf Coast Turbeaus. The Turbeaus held him hitless in 4 at-bats at Asheville Park and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 23. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Highlanders took the win by the score of 2-1. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." This year, Jones is batting .336 with 9 home runs. |
