Veeneman and Givens Brawl, League Suspends Them Wednesday, May 13th , 2054 Yesterday at Ghost Crab Park Dennis Veeneman and Jason Givens got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas and Providence Pilgrims. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Veeneman will have to sit out 4 while Givens would be given a 9-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This season Veeneman has hit at a .225 clip and produced 8 runs batted in, 2 home runs and 9 runs. |
