The future looks extremely bright for Gilberto Martínez. At the age of 18, many players are still trying to find their way in M3L Mexican Summer League.
Martínez has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the M3L Mexican Summer League Most Valuable Player Award.
"I didn't expect to hit .351 this year, that's for sure," the left fielder said.
The MSL Dayton Dirty Reds star also put up a .428 on-base percentage this year, with 73 hits, 14 doubles, 1 triple, 24 home runs, 50 RBIs and 59 runs scored.
He received 9 first place votes out of a possible 12. Jeremy Hoover of the MSL Echo Park Lakers finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while John Gudmestad of the MSL Echo Park Lakers finished third.
