Though he had a stellar game, Arturo Garza could not prevent his team, the Detroit Rock City, from losing, 5-3, to the Kingston Ponies. Garza went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Reliever George Taylor picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Daniel Haney took the loss. Fred Hull picked up the save for Kingston, his 1st of the year.
Kingston used the clutch hitting of Mitsuo Suzuki to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Ponies the lead, 5-3. For the game, Suzuki had 1 single and 2 doubles in 5 at-bats.
Kingston manager Rayzor Ray called it "a darn good win."
The loss puts Detroit at 0-2.
