Newell Swats 2 Homers, Dirty Reds Top Rock City, 6-1

The Dayton Dirty Reds grabbed a win, 6-1, over the Detroit Rock City at Lang Park. Dayton catcher Gil Newell slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. Juan Rodríguez, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held the Rock City to 1 run on 3 hits over 8.1 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 2. With their winning streak at 4, the Dirty Reds have raced to a strong start this season.
With Dayton leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Newell came up to bat against Detroit pitcher Steve Kidd. Newell hit a slider to right-center for a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Dirty Reds on top, 3-0.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Newell.
