Battery Clip Lakers, 4-3
|
The Charleston Battery picked up a win at Charleston Armory, knocking off the Echo Park Lakers, 4-3. Starting pitcher Noboru Kokawa played a key role in the triumph. Charleston reliever Harry Richter got the win, raising his record to 1-0. John Ellis was tagged with the loss. Charleston goes to 12-9.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 31-year old first baseman Gareth Kvernoey had a real shot to win the game. Echo Park pitcher John Ellis was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Kvernoey hit a run-scoring single. The Battery had a walk-off triumph.
"Noboru is tough to beat when he's hitting his spots," said Charleston manager Matt Hunt.
