The Nashville Hot Chickens beat the Salt Lake City Buzz by a score of 7-5. Nashville first baseman Kurt Smith deserved the lion's share of the credit. Smith was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Hot Chickens. The Hot Chickens raised their record to 5-2.

Smith had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 2-2 fastball from Dennis Bates, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Hot Chickens a 6-5 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Smith.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Smith. "You've got to get results."
