The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys downed the Port Royal Disaster, 6-3, at The Zoo in Syracuse. Greg Myers led the way, going 1-for-1 for Syracuse. Syracuse reliever Larry Pulsifer was the winner. His record is now 3-4. The losing pitcher was Javier Camacho. The second-place Squirrel Monkeys now have a record of 24-17.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Jeff Fields came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Port Royal pitcher Edward Brown, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Syracuse on top, 4-3.

"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Myers told the Syracuse Bulletin.
