The Nashville Hot Chickens defeated the Hialeah Dodos, 13-8, at Dodos Ballpark. Nashville first baseman Kurt Smith had a superb performance. He was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Hialeah, at 19-29, has lost 4 straight.

With Nashville leading 9-8 in the top of the eighth, Smith batted against Hialeah pitcher Dean Bradley. Smith hit a sinker to center for a bases-clearing double. His 10th double of the season put the Hot Chickens on top, 12-8.

Hot Chickens manager Paul Dawsey wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
