The Hamilton Thunderbirds picked up a win at Coyote Wildlife Refuge, defeating the Hialeah Dodos, 3-2. Starting pitcher John Black was an essential part of his team's success. Hamilton is now 19-32, Hialeah 25-26.
Had Luis Mata not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Mata hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Thunderbirds.
"Credit where credit is due," said Mata, "this was a team win."
