The Hialeah Dodos found a way to sneak past the Hamilton Thunderbirds, 5-4, in 12 innings. Hialeah pitcher Tom Schaefer, for one, had a standout performance. Hialeah is now 29-36.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when Hialeah left fielder Germán García, facing Wilbert Irwin, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Dodos the 5-4 win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Hamilton manager Jesús Garces. "But we decided not to take it."
