Lake Monsters Need Extra Frames to Get Past Black Mambas
The Vermont Lake Monsters downed the Austin Black Mambas, 9-6. The hitting star was right fielder Sidney Ames. Ames went 3-5 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Lake Monsters. Vermont reliever Christian Malone picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Lee tai hoi Chen absorbed the loss. Ramón Pacheco nailed down the save.

The most important at-bat for Vermont came in the top of the tenth inning, when left fielder Francisco Sánchez stroked a 2-2 fastball to right for a run-scoring single, putting Vermont up, 7-6.

"Our team showed some gumption," said Ames. "I like it."

Vermont goes to 30-36, Austin to 32-34.
