Disaster Win Squeaker, 2-1, Over Buzz
|
Starting pitcher Ron Woods gave the Port Royal Disaster a rock-solid effort. The Raleigh, North Carolina native helped his team defeat the Salt Lake City Buzz, 2-1, at Ballpark of Port Royal. The win went to Dave McCormick in relief, making him now 4-4. Ernesto Valdéz took the loss for Salt Lake City. Pepe Aguilar, credited with the save, is now 13 for 19 in save opportunities.
Had Santiago Serrano not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Serrano hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Disaster.
In comments to the Port Royal Daily News, Serrano insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
At 27-39, Port Royal is in 11th place in the Menard's AAA.
