Syracuse laid the wood on Hamilton at Coyote Wildlife Refuge.

The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys defeated the Hamilton Thunderbirds, 20-2, in part because of catcher Keith Stevens. Stevens was 2-3 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Squirrel Monkeys. The winning pitcher was 20-year old right-handed pitcher Sloppy Thurston. He tossed 115 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.

Syracuse used a well-timed hit by John Harris to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Squirrel Monkeys ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Nice to score a bunch of runs," said Stevens after the game.

The 4th-place Squirrel Monkeys go to 43-36.
