Salt Lake City beat Pawnee on the strength of starting pitcher Masato Rin's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. Rin, now 8-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Getting the save was Sib Gijbels, his 10th.

An inflection point occurred with two out in the top of the fourth. That's when Buzz left fielder Todd Bowers hit a slider from Keith Hays for a 2-run single. Just like that, Salt Lake City was up, 2-1.

"We had a good game plan," Rin said, "and we were able to execute it."

The third-place Buzz now sit at 44-37.
