MotorBoaters Get Clutch Win Versus Philadelphia
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Heron Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2061 USSL Double A season. On the mound was Ánibal Ramos for the visiting Philadelphia Liberty Academy and Bobby Mixson for the hometown Lake Murray MotorBoaters. In a spirited contest, the MotorBoaters pulled out the win, defeating the Liberty Academy by the score of 5-4. Especially impressive was Ánibal Ramos. Rory Taylor snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 1.1 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season.
Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, 24-year old left fielder Rick Etheridge had a chance to be the hero. Philadelphia pitcher Tanzan Jouda wanted to foil that plan. But with two outs, Etheridge drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The MotorBoaters had themselves a thrilling win.
"Walking a team off at the end -- there's no greater feeling," said Etheridge.
