Starting pitcher Steve Ward was a major factor in the 5-2 Syracuse Starks triumph over the Calgary Lynx. Miguel Bruno was credited with the save for Syracuse, his 7th of the season. Syracuse has won 4 consecutive games.

The Lynx had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Starks going into the bottom of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 32-year old right fielder Bill Gatacre came to the plate. Gatacre hit a 3-run home run on a full count sinker from Calgary hurler Dennis Heath. It was Gatacre's 6th home run of the year.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Syracuse manager Gabriel Madrigal.
