Lake Monsters Earn Late Win
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters took Plymouth pitcher John McCarthy's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Plymouth Quarry. The final score had Vermont getting past the Rocks, 2-1. McCarthy went 8.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 6. The win belonged to Jeff Ricks in relief. His record improves to 3-0. John McCarthy took the loss for Plymouth. The win gives Vermont a season record of 52-42.
Nikolaj Molnar came through with a big-time hit for Vermont. The second baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I thought we competed really well," said Lake Monsters manager Alfonso Núñez. "I thought the energy was really good."
