The performance of Melvin Henderson proved critical in helping Ft. Myers beat Port Royal, 8-6. The Marlins third baseman was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Ft. Myers reliever Erich Alfaro was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Danny Dean. Jorge Ortíz closed the door for Ft. Myers, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Had Jesús Longoria not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Longoria hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Marlins.
