The Hartford Pride got a superb performance from pitcher Spencer McCarthy, but the Florence Flamingos still won the game, 3-2. McCarthy threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Kenny Busby claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 4.1 innings. His record stands at 1-0. The Flamingos, now 4-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.

Manuel Méndez came through with a big-time hit for Florence. The third baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Méndez. "You've got to get results."
