The Plymouth Rocks picked up a win at Plymouth Quarry, dropping the Sioux Falls Red Pandas, 5-3. Reynaldo Hernández was the difference-maker. Hernández, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. With the win, Plymouth improves its record to 5-0.
The Red Pandas had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Rocks going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old third baseman Yoshihito Takeuchi came to the plate. Takeuchi hit a grand slam home run on a full count curveball from Sioux Falls hurler Uhi Ahipene. It was Takeuchi's 1st home run of the year.
Hernández called the win "a collective effort."
