Starks Use Late Score to Top Drummers, 5-4
|
Tortolita center fielder Marcus Holmes was sensational. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Syracuse beat the Drummers, 5-4. James Ellison got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The win gives the Starks a record of 1-4.
The Starks benefited from a costly error in the top of the second. With Kenneth Alexander at bat and Syracuse leading 2-1, the Tortolita miscue allowed Syracuse to plate 2 and take the lead, 4-1.
"No time for flexing," said Alexander. "It's always one game at a time."
