Monsters Win 5th Straight, Take Down Liberty Reserves, 4-2
|
Monongahela pitcher Lee Wood did his part in helping his team beat the Philadelphia Liberty Reserves, 4-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. In 8 innings, Wood surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Héctor González was credited with the save for Monongahela, his 2nd of the season.
Tom Servo's at-bat in the top of the seventh was significant, coming with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the game tied, 2-2. The Monongahela catcher hit a run-scoring single off Jim Ball to put the Monsters up.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Servo said after the game.
The win gives the Monsters a record of 5-1.
