The Monongahela Monsters had no problem beating the Florence Flamingos, 16-1, at Timber Hawks Ballpark. Smarty Jones led the way. He went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4 for Monongahela. Fernando Feliciano, the winner, improved to 3-0. He held Florence to 1 run on 2 hits over 7.1 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. For Florence, now 3-12, the season is off to a dismal start.

The Monsters got an important contribution from pinch hitter Mark King, who in the bottom of the eighth punched a 2-2 changeup to right-center for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Monsters ahead, 16-1.

"The score speaks for itself," said losing manager Nick Hoskins. "It was embarrassing."
