The Syracuse Starks took on the Florence Flamingos at Florence Field.

Syracuse pitcher Matt Dougherty did his part in helping his team defeat the Florence Flamingos, 6-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Dougherty got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 3 hits and walked 1 over 5.2 innings. He allowed no runs.

Syracuse used the timely hitting of Evan Winn to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Starks on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"It was a solid team effort," said Dougherty after the game.

The loss drops the Flamingos to 9-7.
