Austin Dealt 5-2 Defeat
|
Gustavo Rivera was outstanding against Austin. The left-hander, the 14th overall pick in the 2049 draft, had a changeup that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Blitzkrieg 5-2 win. In 5 innings, Rivera surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 11 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Luis Montáñez earned the save for Port Huron, his 4th.
The Black Mambas had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blitzkrieg going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old center fielder Javier Icaza came to the plate. Icaza hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch curveball from Austin hurler Dan Gibbs. It was Icaza's 2nd double of the year.
Icaza attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
Austin falls to 14-4.
