Drummers Lose Versus Florence, 7-4
|
The Florence Flamingos defeated the Tortolita Drummers, 7-4, at Drummers Ballpark. Willie Scott, who is tied for 9th in the SAAA in runs scored with 11, was a standout performer for Florence. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 2 he knocked in. Florence pitcher Guy Shirley got the win. He's now 2-0. Geoffrey Da Costa was tagged with the loss. Luis Pizarro earned the save for Florence, his 2nd.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 23-year old center fielder Scott Potter. Potter had a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Flamingos ahead, 7-4. For the game, Potter had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Potter told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."
Florence is now 9-10.
