Squirrel Monkeys Notch 3-2 Win Versus Liberty Reserves
|
Syracuse pitcher Mark Hodge had a large part in his team beating the Philadelphia Liberty Reserves, 3-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Hodge, now 2-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. James Tucker earned the save for Syracuse, his 2nd.
Diego Guzmán's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth was significant, coming with runners on 1st and 3rd and the game tied, 2-2. The Syracuse center fielder hit a run-scoring single off Jim Ball to put the Squirrel Monkeys up.
"Mark gave us everything he had," said Syracuse manager Ramón Barrueco.
The third-place Squirrel Monkeys go to 11-11.
