Thanks in large part to shortstop Jonas van Claveren, Jr., the Hartford Pride beat the Tortolita Drummers, 10-1. van Claveren, Jr. was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. Eugene Glenn earned the win to go to 1-3. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. With the win, the Pride are 4-18.

With Hartford leading 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh, van Claveren, Jr. batted against Tortolita pitcher Dan Cook. van Claveren, Jr. hit a fastball to center for a grand slam home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Pride on top, 9-1.

"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," van Claveren, Jr. told the Hartford Today.
