The Santa Barbara Golden Cranes extended their losing streak with a defeat by the Norfolk Pajaritos.

The Pajaritos earned a hard-fought, 4-1 win in 10 innings at Norfolk Field. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from Santa Barbara pitcher Don Beales. Beales went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Norfolk reliever Chris Small picked up the win to move to 2-1. Barney Arrington suffered the loss.

Salvador Chávez played the role of hero for Norfolk. In the bottom of the tenth, he launched a 3-run home run off Barney Arrington to win the game. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was the decisive blow.

Afterward, Santa Barbara manager Júlio González said: "Every team has a bad week."

The losing skid has reached 9 games for Santa Barbara.
