Thunderbirds Sink Fighting Dachshunds, 4-1
|
The Hamilton Thunderbirds defeated the Ellenburg Fighting Dachshunds, 4-1. Doing his part was center fielder Greg Erwin, who was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Jay Newton, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-2. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 1 hits and 1 run, while striking out 7 and walking 4. Ed Walters finished the game for Hamilton and earned his 4th save.
With Hamilton leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Erwin hit a fastball from Bill Miller for a run-scoring double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Thunderbirds ahead, 2-0.
"We did a lot of things right," said Erwin.
Ellenburg has now lost 5 straight.
