The Philadelphia Liberty Reserves beat the Monongahela Monsters, 3-1, at Liberty Reserve Stadium. Starting pitcher Jim Ball was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Ball, the winner, moves to 5-2. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 1 walk. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Fred Briggs.

Philadelphia took a 2-1 lead on Tim Petras's 1st home run of the season. The solo home run, which Petras hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Monongahela pitcher Lee Wood visibly frustrated.

Petras called the win a test of his team's "mettle."

The triumph puts Philadelphia at 31-12 for the season.
