Humpbacks Best Golden Cranes in Pitching Duel
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Alaskan Humpbacks and the Santa Barbara Golden Cranes, Kevin Rietmulder was the X factor. The Alaskan right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Heath Hennington finished to wrap up his 4th save. With the win, Alaskan goes to 30-20, while the Golden Cranes fall to 23-27.
The Golden Cranes had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Humpbacks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old right fielder Matt Turner came to the plate. Turner hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 slider from Santa Barbara hurler Aaron Ellicott. It was Turner's 8th double of the year.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Alaskan skipper Alfonso Vera. "I can't complain."
