The Sioux Falls Red Pandas, despite a fine performance by Florence pitcher Gustavo Martínez, grabbed a 2-1 win at Florence Field. Martínez allowed 1 run over 7.1 innings. The 'W' lifts Sioux Falls's record to 30-36.
Sioux Falls used a timely hit from Basilio Penni to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Pandas ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"That's baseball," said Florence manager Nick Hoskins. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
