Starks Knock Off Rainbeaus, 7-5
|
The Syracuse Starks besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Kansas shortstop Luis Martínez by beating the Rainbeaus, 7-5, at Stark Stadium. Martínez went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. Roberto Silva, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 9-2. David Cole earned the save for Syracuse, his 13th of the year.
Kenneth Alexander, who is tied for 8th in the SAAA in extra base hits with 23, took Kansas hurler John Turner deep in the bottom of the fifth. His 3-run home run put the Starks on top, 6-5. In all, Alexander had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Alexander. "You've got to get results."
Syracuse's record now stands at 37-31, placing them third in the Silver AAA.
