Red Pandas Come Up Short at Montreal, 2-1
|
Fans watched the Montreal Machine and the Sioux Falls Red Pandas fight to the finish.
Sioux Falls pitcher Harvey Caldwell gave the Machine all they could handle, but in the end, Montreal left Stade Olympique with a win, 2-1. Caldwell allowed 2 runs on 6 hits over 6.2 innings. Montreal pitcher Gunnar Hamilton earned the win, hiking his record to 2-1. Harvey Caldwell suffered the loss. Bill Ramírez finished to wrap up his 11th save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Machine had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when second baseman Michael Barry hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Harvey Caldwell and made the score 2-1, Machine. Barry was 2-3 with 2 singles.
Montreal manager Alfonso Vera commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
