Late Rally Earns Austin 5-2 Win
|
The Austin Black Mambas took Philadelphia pitcher Jim Ball's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Liberty Reserve Stadium. The final score had Austin getting past the Liberty Reserves, 5-2. Ball went 8 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 8. Austin reliever William Petersen, who is tied for 5th in the SAAA in holds with 5, was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-1. Kasper Berg took the loss for Philadelphia. With the win over Philadelphia, the Black Mambas improved to 40-43.
Austin used the clutch hitting of Chris Wolfe to snag the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Black Mambas ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a crucial one.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Wolfe, "and then get after it again."
