Monongahela pitcher Cisco Navarro had a large part in his team subduing the Florida Men, 4-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The winner was Monongahela reliever Eugene Ingram, now 3-1. The loser was Francisco Cortés. Jeff Thompson picked up the save, his 15th.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Ricardo Álvarez came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Florida pitcher Francisco Cortés, he hit a 2-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Monongahela on top, 2-1.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Álvarez. "And not try to do too much."
The win puts the Monsters at 55-36, while the Men drop to 25-66.
