Philadelphia pitcher and Boston, Massachusetts, native William Spencer had an outstanding performance. Philadelphia reliever William Spencer got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Nick Price was tagged with the loss. The 6th-place Liberty Reserves now have a win-loss record of 49-47.

Chi Chi Rodríguez contributed to the Philadelphia win with a 3-run home run in the top of the first. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
