Cates Lifts Liberty Reserves to 8-0 Win
|
The Philadelphia Liberty Reserves licked the Port Huron Blitzkrieg, 8-0. Chris Cates deserved a big chunk of the credit. The catcher went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Liberty Reserves. Juan Pacheco, who went 7.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with no runs on 3 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 5-8. Philadelphia is now 51-47.
With Philadelphia leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Cates hit a run-scoring single off Port Huron hurler Chris Morris. It was the 39th hit of the season for Cates and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Philadelphia manager Kiril Neuvel.
